Belt sizing guide

How to Order Your New Belt

The most accurate way to order the right size is to measure a belt you already own that fits well. This page walks you through the steps and common sizing scenarios.

What you are ordering: Your belt size is the measurement (in inches) from the fold at the buckle to the hole you use most on a belt that already fits you well.
How to measure a belt

Step-by-Step: Measure a Belt That Fits

  1. Grab your best-fitting belt. Choose a belt you wear comfortably on the same part of your body you plan to wear your new belt (waist vs hips).
  2. Lay it flat on a table. Pull it straight so it is not curved or bunched up.
  3. Find the fold. This is the crease where the leather wraps around the buckle. Start your measurement at that fold, not the end of the buckle.
  4. Measure to the hole you use most. Measure in a straight line from the fold to the hole that shows the most wear or the hole you typically use.
  5. Order that number in inches. That measurement is your belt size and corresponds to the center hole on your new belt.
Example: If the distance from the fold to your most-used hole is 36 inches, you would order a 36 inch belt.

No Belt to Measure? Use This Backup Method

If you do not have a belt that fits well, you can still get close using a tape measure and a simple rule of thumb.

  • Measure where you will wear the belt. Wrap a soft tape measure through your belt loops (or around your waist/hips at the same height) and take the snug measurement.
  • Compare to pants size (+2 inches). As a quick starting point, use your pants size plus 2 inches (example: 34 inch pants → 36 inch belt).
  • If you are between sizes, size up. Choosing the larger size usually gives you more adjustment flexibility.

Common Fit Notes

  • Waist vs hips matters. A belt worn higher on the waist often measures differently than one worn lower on the hips. Measure the way you actually wear it.
  • Thicker leather can feel snugger. Heavier leather can sit differently through belt loops. If you are unsure between two sizes, sizing up is usually safest.
  • Gifts: If you are buying for someone else, the best method is still measuring their current belt from fold to their most-used hole.
